Best surf spots near Tangalle, Sri Lanka
Nadee Surf School is located at Unakuruwa Beach. Unakuruwa is a small surfing bay, close to the city of Tangalle. The waves are nice for beginners and intermediate surfers. This surfing spot has a reef break. If you’re lucky, you’ll see turtles while surfing.
This bay has an authentic vibe to it with the many fishermen’s boats. Surrounding are a few restaurants and places to chill at the beach. Renting boards, from soft tops to hard boards, is possible at Nadee’s Surf School. As well as snorkelling equipment and paddle boards.

Unakuruwa Beach
Kudawella Beach
Kudawella is a great spot for beginners who would love to learn how to surf. This spot has a beach break and is very shallow. It’s a perfect spot for kids since it’s a very safe place. It’s also great for people who struggle with swimming.
When we take our surf students to Kudawella Beach, the transfer of the tuk-tuk is always included in the price.
Hiriketiya Beach
Hiriketiya Beach is a 500m beautiful horseshoe-shaped cove with on the left reef and the right a beach break. It is a suitable place for beginners and intermediate level. Advanced check out Hiriketiya Bay Reef Break. The reef break is a peeling left-hander on a very shallow reef closer to the coastline. It’s a powerful wave, holds up to 6ft and can give a 350m ride around the bay. The point has a small take-off area.
